Team Sarcoma 2008 is project of the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative in conjunction with Donauradfreunde ("Danube Bike Friends") who started bike tours along the Danube River twenty years ago. The Donauradfreunde are represented by BikeToursDirect. The Team Sarcoma 2008 Initiative is an internationally coordinated set of events to raise awareness of sarcoma and raise funds for sarcoma research. The 2008 Initiative will include "Sarcoma Update" lectures that will be given in various cities around the world in June 2008 and the Team Sarcoma 2008 Bike Tour which will be held in Germany and Austria through July 12-20, 2008. Think of the Team Sarcoma 2008 Bike Tour as an “ International Bike, Run, Walk, and Swim for Sarcoma Awareness”. The members of Team Sarcoma 2008 in Germany and Austria will be joined by people who will cycle, run, walk, hike, or swim in the countries where they live on one or more of the days that the members of Team Sarcoma 2008 are cycling in Germany/Austria. These people will form local “Team Sarcomas” in their home countries around the globe.

The Initiative continues to fund work at leading cancer institutes in translational science sarcoma research involving the development of new approaches to fight sarcoma such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, mTOR inhibitors, and the use of nanotechnology in sarcoma research, treatments regimens, and diagnosis. In addition, the Liddy Shriver Sarcoma Initiative posts an online, bi-monthly newsletter which contains articles of interest to patients, caregivers, physicians, and nurses called the Electronic Sarcoma Update Newsletter (ESUN). In addition to feature articles that focus on specific sarcomas and current issues in dealing with these cancers, it has regular columns discussing clinical trials (Clinical Trial News), recent research findings (Research Corner), a column that deals with a general potpourri of topics of general interest (Odds & Ends Column) and a column telling Stories of Courage and Hope.
The picture below is purposely huge so you guys can SEE the faces of sarcoma. Young, old, from everywhere across the globe, male, female....sarcoma knows no borders. These are just a few of those affected by this horrible cancer but as years progress on the pictures on groups seemingly become larger. Day by day this cancer is no longer becoming the forgotten cancer. They are survivors. They are survivors of loved ones. They are courage. They are hope. We are Team Sarcoma.
